Moving out, moving on

Our teeny tiny office, taken with a camphone

Is it that hard to leave something behind and move on? Hermit crabs have no issues with it. Ants do it when the need arises. And just like the ants that we so often compare ourselves to, we’re doing the same thing.

We’re moving out of our current address and transferring to a new one.

Hermits, the crab variety, leave their shells behind and move into larger ones once they’ve outgrown their current domicile. Hence, “hermit crabs.” That’s what’s happening with Arkeo.

Arkeo is growing very fast, and our needs now require a larger working space for our expanding family and the work that we see we will be engaged in the near future. Case in point: a few months ago, two production meetings were being held at the same time – a total of 17 persons. Look at the picture above and see if 17 persons can fit there. On second thought, it looked like we were having a pizza party.

But that incident made us recognize that our work efficiency was being affected by our need for larger office space. It was time to leave the place and move to a better anthill.

It has to be big. With rooms for at least two swanky editing suites, an impressive conference area, a room for the partners, a production area, and a hangout where we can all watch A.I. together. It will be our creative home at least for the next few years.

The change won’t be that easy, or fast. So many boxes to fill. After all, we did spend five years tucking into this 74 square meter multi-colored corner. Mansyon and Big Time were made in this place. To some extent, this small two-bedroom space was where we spent some of the best times of our movie-making and corporate lives.

But it’s time to move on. We have lots of other plans – new ideas and movies to make. And the new office, wherever it may finally be, is where we’ll make our future memories.

It will be big. With space enough to hold our ever-expansive dreams. Movies! TV Ads! Shows! It will be our spiritual home. Where we will cook our favorite dishes and cheer on the next American Idol. Our anthill will only get bigger as our collective imaginations permit.

And even if our new office doesn’t work, we’ll just have to put our bags over our shoulders again and march in a straight line. Just like ants carrying one grain of sand at a time.
